I have projected the inner turmoil of my current troubles and anxieties throughout summer into this piece; literally painting and assembling my negative thoughts into an installation. The bedroom encapsulates a particularly anxious time and period of change that I had a sense of foreboding about and ended up regretting. The choice of yellow comes from the fact that this colour specifically helps me stay calm in anxious situations. Yet when the audience saw this piece during the show they had mixed reactions, one comment particularly embedded within my mind. Someone mentioned that whilst surrounding yourself with so much yellow and happiness you are creating quite the opposite effect and that the piece to her reminded her of suicide. This comment particularly led to me reflecting about my own psychology and where I’d like this project to lead in the future.
