"Were together now everything is going to be fine ... "

A happy memory, a joyful movie or a delightful fairytale laced with an underlying intimation of the uncanny. The exploration of fairytales enables me to analyze something that appears to be cheerful and child friendly, despite having an obscure enigmatic tale behind it. Demonstrating the uncanny within a chosen script in a subtle and considered way permits me to create works that initiate the viewers subconscious. I am playing the role of director and plagiarizer; this involves changing and editing a known script to fit the deeper underling story. The viewer experiencing an uncanny feeling and unease as the darker intent of the script is disclosed without the viewer’s realization of my initial idea. The well-known Disney classic, Beauty and the Beast, has multiple prior versions that are not so innocent. Using the various original versions of the tale and a combination of the two Disney remakes to create the feeling of the uncanny; creating a charming appearance but with the original satirical twists.

I feel that this project will pose questions such as:

* Is the beast a murderer?

* Is bell in an abusive relationship with the beast?

* Does the story line depict how arrange marriage was at the time of the original tale?

Doing this by using a variety of collected objects that have similar characteristics of the most well-known version of the tale. Such as the curtains are similar to the ones in the Disney cartoon (1991), The fireplace is inspired by the remake in 2017 and the distressing and scratched look is inspired by the older versions of the tale. I got to this result by exploring a variety of known fairytales. Eventually leading to my final decision of beauty and the beast, I choose this fairytale as it will be fresh in peoples minds due to the Disney remake happening close to the show; the fact that beauty and the best has so many versions also aided me in twisting the storyline.
